Santhakumari, the mother of Mollywood superstar Mohanlal, passed away at the age of 90 on Tuesday. She was battling a prolonged illness and paralysis. She took her last breath in her home in Kochi, where she was receiving special care for her health.
She is the wife of the late government official Viswanathan Nair. Throughout her life, she remained resilient for her son, after which Mohanlal became a great actor across the country. Actor Mohanlal, too, has repeatedly credited Santhakumari as an instrumental figure in his success. Very recently, after earning the Dadasaheb Phalke Award milestone, the actor shared the honour with his mother.
The Mollywood film fraternity is extending its condolences to the family, taking to social media to do so. Sreedhar Pillai took to X and wrote, “Sad to hear the passing of @Mohanlal’s mother, Santhakumari Amma (90) due to old age related issues. My condolences to him and his family. Om Shanti.” Actor Kamal Haasan wrote, “Brother @MohanLalonly you can console your self . Friends will stand by you as always . No amount of comforting can compensate a loss like this . Take care we all love you. -Kamal Haasan”
The family is now preparing for the last rites, including Mohanlal, Suchitra, Pranav, and Vismaya, per 123 Telugu.
