Following the shocking death of a worker on the sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War, the filmmaker has found himself in a soup. Recently, a crew member named Chandradhari Yadav, who was a carpenter, died during the shoot of the movie in Mumbai reportedly due to an electric shock. And now, after his demise, AICWA is seeking an FIR against the filmmaker and the Bhansali Production, demanding compensation for the deceased’s family.
Reportedly, the association has written to the Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis about the incident and has raised serious concerns about the implementation of workplace safety. The AICWA president Suresh Shyamlal Gupta’s Instagram letter mentioned that despite the production house being one of the renowned banners in the industry, safety measures were not followed.
He wrote, “The incident has raised serious concerns regarding the implementation of workplace safety measures on film shooting sets. Despite the film being a large-scale production featuring prominent actors such as Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, and Alia Bhatt, mandatory safety norms were not followed on the set, resulting in the unfortunate death of a worker. Had the required safety measures been strictly implemented and enforced, this tragic incident could possibly have been avoided.’
Further added that Chandradhari’s demise has not only affected the family emotionally but also financially, as he was the sole earner in the family. He was survived by his wife and two minor daughters, and so the association has demanded 1 crore compensation to the deceased’s family: “Demand for a High-Level Investigation, ₹1 Crore Compensation to the Bereaved Family, Comprehensive Safety Audit of the Film Set, and Permission to Resume Shooting Only After Full Compliance with Mandatory Safety Norms.”
In the letter, the association also mentioned similar incidents being reported on the film sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
In contrast, the production house has been providing financial assistance of 40 lakhs, but FWICE has raised that amount to 50 lakhs.
