There’s no doubt about the fact that menstrual discussions have been a subject of taboo in India for the longest time. However, over the past few years, people have started to open up realizing there’s nothing to be ashamed of when talking about menstruation. Akshay Kumar earlier had shown the way forward with his film Padman and now it looks like that’s not where Akshay stopped his contribution towards this issue.
At a time like this when the poor and the underprivileged are the worst affected, Akshay Kumar in a collaborative initiative with NGO Samarpan is coming forward by contributing and donating sanitary napkin kits for the poor women. Regarding the contribution, Akshay Kumar said to the media and we quote,
“A great cause needs your support. COVID-19 doesn’t stop periods, help provide sanitary pads to underprivileged women across Mumbai. Every donation counts.” As of 21 May 2020, they have already distributed 3,000 packets of sanitary pads. ”
