Anupama Parameswaran, the well-known South actress, has now finally broken her silence regarding her personal life, opening up about her breakup and the difficult phase she endured over the past two years in a recent interview with TOI.
Confessing about her relationship, Anupama described it as a narcissistic relationship. For the first time, she publicly opened up about her personal life and the impact of the relationship on her. She said, “There are a lot of things behind that post. It was the result of two years of physical and emotional suffering and breakdown. I went through narcissistic abuse for the past two years.”
Speaking up on the Instagram post that created buzz earlier, Anupama said, “If I had posted a picture of myself in that yellow dress and written ‘Rest in Peace Anupama, she committed suicide’ instead, I would have received so much love today. There would have been so many discussions. It has been more than a month since the outside world came to know about the breakup. Everyone, including my family, friends and staff, knew that the relationship was not right for me.”
Anupama revealed that her family noticed the changes in her behavior and her becoming withdrawn. Further, she explained how narcissistic abuse may become a part of a relationship without the victim immediately recognizing it.
She said, “Narcissistic abuse happens very quietly. People misunderstand narcissists as people who love themselves a lot. But they actually hate themselves. They are insecure. They do not recognize their own worth. Basically, what they want is someone they can control. They seek attention. They constantly want validation and consideration.”
Addressing the engagement rumors, Anupama revealed that her relationship quickly progressed and soon engagement discussions followed in just three months; however, she rejected the proposal, saying that she needed more time.
Adding to the negative effects of her past relationship, Anupama highlighted that her relationship also affected her career choices, revealing she did not attend Dragon promotions, “…which became the biggest success of her career.
