Veteran actress Aruna Irani, who has graced Indian cinema for over five decades with memorable performances in films like Beta, Mili, and Lawaaris, recently opened up about a painful chapter from her past. The acclaimed actress disclosed her complicated relationship with Mehmood through an exclusive Zoom conversation because she claimed he had exploited her during their relationship. Irani decided to marry filmmaker Kuku Kohli after their relationship ended, but she reported that Mehmood would have made her his third wife if their romance had continued. The revelation sheds light on a difficult period in her life that remained largely private until now.
Irani spoke about her relationship according to its social effects, which produced negative effects on her mental well-being. The public considered her a homebreaker because Mehmood had two existing marriages, while her mother, who recognised the relationship as incorrect, always advised her to break up with him. The actress observed an alarming change in Mehmood’s behaviour after she gained popularity: he began keeping his distance from her while taking advantage of her situation.
Talking about the relationship, Aruna Irani spoke about how she was termed as the home wrecker, “Mehmood ji was already married twice. I was called a homebreaker. My mother would often tell me not to continue the relationship since it was wrong. After I became famous, Mehmood started avoiding me. I wouldn’t blame him entirely since he supported me a lot during my struggling days.”
Irani added, “After seeing Mehmood’s behaviour, I realised that he is openly exploiting me. It eventually became very complicated for me,” per Times Now.
