At first when I saw the announcement I thought Richa Chadha had won the Bharat Ratna. Anything is possible in this country. And if Payal Ghosh can win the same award, I guess Richa can aim a little higher, can’t she?
I have no clue what this award Bharat Ratna Dr Ambedkar Award is. I understand it is named after the iconic Bharat Ratna Dr Ambedkar. But why is the prestigious award that Dr Ambedkar won , mentioned in an award named after him ?
Nowadays it’s hard to tell the reason for the multiplicity of awards’ existence. I do know Richa has done some good work. But even after wracking my brains for hours, I can’t figure out what Ms Ghosh is being honored for. She supposedly started her career with a BBC serial called Sharpe’s Peril. I spotted other Indian actors like Nandana Sen and Amit Behl in Sharpe’s Peril but I couldn’t find Ms Ghosh.
My bad luck… Then she did a couple of Telugu films, 3 to be exact, where she has , shall we say, non-pivotal roles. And then in one of Rishi Kapoor’s last Hindi films , the god-awful Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi Ms Ghosh played Paresh Rawal’s daughter.
None of the above films or performances are award-worthy from any any angle. Have I missed something? Some grand undisclosed spectacle from her clandestine repertoire that humanity has completely overlooked? Do tell us what it is that we have overlooked . It is a terrible loss for civilization. And the sooner we know what made Ms Ghosh eligible for an award named after the great man who conceived the Indian Constitution the better its for our constitution.
