In spite of Covid making a huge comeback in our lives, all is not lost for the movie business. Director Adam Wingrad’s colossal battle between the forces of Nature in Godzilla Versus Kong has registered a heartening Rs.6.40 crore all-India collections on the day of opening(March 24).

This is the highest ever opening collection for any film in India ever since the pandemic paralyzed the populace. And that too when this visually stunning film has opened week with no superstars’ names in the credits.

Trade guru Taran Adarsh sees this as a very encouraging sign. “It only goes to prove yet again, people want to watch a well-made entertainer on big screen. South markets contribute a major chunk of the boxoffice collection. Also the film has been liked immensely.”

Adds Trade expert Girish Johar, “The film was released without any promotions. It was a limited 2,000 screens mid-week release. No Holiday. And dubbed in four languages. It has destroyed every notion.Cases Rising, still. But audiences Pan India are turning up at theatres, with good contribution from South,to watch. Please note there are no stars in Gozilla Versus Kong.No Big Names. No Promotions.Only Full Blown Action.”

Girish is overwhelmed by the collections. “#GodzillaVsKong is now comfortably poised for a very impressive extended long weekend at Indian Box Office, despite cases rising and limited screen count! Clearly SMART COMMERCIAL CINEMA is ruling Indian boxoffice presently. The South makers have mastered this beautifully and Hollywood makers with their massive budgets.are providing what the audiences want, despite protocols,SOPs. No stopping here !”
