There is a sense of shock regarding the low boxoffice figures of Bunty Aur Babli 2. The first film was a roaring hit, and producer Aditya Chopra expected the fans of the first film to troop in to movie theatres.

But the film has opened abysmally, the first day’s collection is approximately 2.5crore rupees. The second day is even worse. Cinema exhibitors and distributors describe it as a disaster.

“There is no market for a film starring Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerjee. He is at best a good supporting actor. She is now seen as the producer’s wife. As for the younger pair Siddhant Chaturvedi and Sharvari Wagh, they bring nothing to the original plot,” says a leading trade analyst who doesn’t want to be named.

As far as cashing in on the nostalgia value goes the analyst says, “The first Bunty Babli Film came 16 years ago. No one cares any longer. The world has moved in. No one is interested.”

There is a mention in the film of another film in the franchise. But that seems unlikely. Maybe after another 16 years.
