Chhapaak Copyright row: Meghna Gulzar shuts down writer's claim

Meghna Gulzar’s Chhapaak, starring Deepika Padukone, is just a day or two away from its release. The movie is based on the life of the acid-attack victim, Laxmi Agarwal.

From the shooting till the promotions, everything went smooth and hunky-dory for the team until now, when suddenly a writer has claimed his ‘Copyright’ and has submitted a plea against Meghna.

But Meghna doesn’t seem to be taking anything lightly. That’s the reason Meghna responded strongly to the Bombay High Court.

Her 17-page affidavit says,

“Copyright protection cannot be extended to information that constitutes facts available in the public domain and is based on events that have factually transpired. Protection under the Copyright Act does not extend to ideas/concepts.”
