The Meghna Gulzar directorial opened to a disastrous response on its first day. The film starring Kareena Kapoor marks her career’s lowest first-day collection, recording earnings of 1 crore net on Day 1 (First Friday).

Despite its sensitive, heavy exploration of crime against women and the moral boundaries of justice and police accountability, the crime thriller earned 1 crore net across 2,283 shows with just 12 percent occupancy.

The film, also starring Prithviraj Sukumaran as the male lead, grossed 1.20 crore on its opening day. Furthermore, the film failed to make an impact in overseas markets.

Daayra becomes Kareena’s lowest-earning film. However, critics have widely praised her portrayal of DCP Ajooni Kohli as one of the finest performances of her career. Earlier, The Buckingham Murders was her lowest opener, earning just 1.15 crore net on day 1, released in 2024.

Verdict

The film’s opening looks concerning, as it earned just 1 crore net amid competition from Hanuman Ansh, Mirzapur: The Movie and Vibe. Its ultimate box-office verdict will depend heavily on its first-weekend growth.
