Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra, 89, is alive and recovering, his family confirmed after false reports of his death went viral on social media late Tuesday night. The actor, affectionately known as the “He-Man” of Indian cinema, was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital following complaints of breathlessness.
Amid widespread online speculation, Esha Deol took to her social media handle to issue a statement, putting all rumours to rest. “My father is stable and recovering. Please don’t believe in any false reports. We request everyone to respect our family’s privacy,” she wrote.
Hema Malini, Dharmendra’s wife and veteran actress, also addressed the situation, confirming that he is under medical supervision. “Dharmendra ji is doing well and is being looked after by the doctors. We are hoping for his speedy recovery,” she said.
Earlier in the day, several unverified social media posts had falsely claimed that the veteran actor had passed away, leading to confusion among fans and industry colleagues. The family’s quick clarification helped curb the spread of misinformation.
Dharmendra, who continues to be active in films and public appearances, recently featured in Karan Johar’s ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani’ (2023) alongside Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. Known for his iconic roles in films like Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Phool Aur Patthar, and Dream Girl, Dharmendra remains one of Hindi cinema’s most celebrated stars.
Fans across India have flooded social media with wishes for his recovery, using hashtags like #GetWellSoonDharmendra and #HeManForever.
