Dharmendra, the actor who carved a path of legacy, has passed away at the age of 89. With a six-decade career, featuring in over 300 films, the actor was a pillar of Bollywood. His last film Ikkis, is slated to be released next year.

The actor was earlier admitted to Breach Candy Hospital. Later, he was discharged. According to his family, the actor was doing better following his treatment at home. On November 24th, an ambulance outside his residence sparked concerns amongst his fans, with celebrities reaching the Juhu Crematorium. However, Karan Johar and Boman Irani hailed the actor’s legacy on their official social media handle, confirming the death news.

Karan Johar emotionally noted, “It is an end of an ERA….. a massive mega star… the embodiment of a HERO in mainstream cinema… incredibly handsome and the most enigmatic screen presence … he is and will always be a bonafide Legend of Indian Cinema… defining and richly present in the pages of cinema history … but mostly he was the best human being… he was so loved by everyone in our industry …. He only had immense love and positivity for everyone … his blessings, his hug and his incredible warmth will be missed more than words can describe …. Today there is a gaping hole in our industry … a space that can never be filled by anyone … there will always be the one and only DHARAMJI… we love you kind Sir…. We will miss you so much…. The heavens are blessed today…. It will always be my blessing to have worked with you…. And my heart says with respect, reverence and love…. Abhi Na jao chodke…. Ke dil abhi bhara nahi……”

Boman Irani took to his Instagram handle to confirm the news, and noting a heartfelt message, “It is painful to write this…But, as we rewind that reel of joy that he brought to millions like me, the teardrop drops down one’s cheek with gratitude and awe. A face of rugged handsomeness, yet he exuded kindness like no other. Intense when he had to be and yet boyish and funny on another day. He had something for everyone. Romantic for some, macho for the other, but benevolent for all. As he stands up on that Giant Water Tank in the Sky, we say goodbye and will always be grateful for the wonderful memories.”
