Emperor vs Sarat Chandra, Director Srijit Mukherji’s Bengali film is expected to be a captivating blend of history, literature and politics. It tells the story of the battle between the oppressive power of the written word and the oppression of British rule, while also capturing both the truth and fantasy of India’s independence struggle.
When the film was announced, it was to be produced by SVF. However, the recent development is that SVF has backed out of the project, with Nandy Movies coming in as the Producers.
The film has a stellar cast of Tota Roychowdhury as Sarat Chandra and Abir Chatterjee as Sabyasachi (the novel’s protagonist).
We at IWMBuzz.com dug deep into why the original Producers SVF opted out of the film, and found out that the film is positioned for a release as reported earlier, under the able hands of Nandy Movies.
We buzzed the spokesperson at SVF, but did not get a response till we filed the story.
We reached out to Director Srijit Mukherji, who replied to us, “SVF did not get a suitable prime release date from the screening committee. Nandy Movies is doing it instead, and they have a date.”
Srijit Mukherji, in an earlier media report, said that he believes Emperor vs Sarat Chandra is not just a work of historical fiction; it is also an examination of ideology and resistance against oppression. The adaptation is one way of bringing a well-known literary classic to life through cinema; as such, it will show how words and ideas can combat systems of oppression that exist today.
Are you looking forward to the release of this much-anticipated Srijit Mukherji classic adaptation?
