With the male members of the Bachchan family in hospital recuperating from Covid19, and with Aishwarya in quarantine the lady of the house Mrs Jaya Bachchan is running the household on her own.
“And there is nothing unusual about that. Even when Amitji and Junior (Abhishek) are around it’s Jayaji who runs every aspect of the household, so there is nothing new in it. She’s not allowed to visit the family in hospital. So she can only monitor their health on the phone,” says a close family friend.
Considering this is no easy situation to be in how has Jayaji taken the multiple health setbacks in the family?
“She is a very strong woman. She is handling the situation with iron hands. Most of the time she is busy. But at times the emptiness of the home hits her hard. Then she bounces back,” says the friend.
Some of those close to Jaya Bachchan have wondered how she escaped the virus. One of the reasons could be her long absence from Jalsa the Bachchan residence in Mumbai. She was stranded in Delhi for three months when lockdown was declared in March. She returned to Mumbai a situation she could have never imagined.
“She keeps wondering who will come home first, and then she banishes that thought. She wants the entire family to be together,” says the family friend.
