Meena Kumari, who is hailed as one of the most talented and highest-paid heroines of her time, married filmmaker Kamal Amrohi, who was already married to Sayeda Al-Zehra Mehmoodi and had three children. The filmmaker never formally informed his first wife about his marriage to the popular actress. In a recent conversation, Kamal’s son Tajdar Amrohi from his first marriage opened up about his stepmother and her fights with his father.
In a conversation with journalist Vickey Lalwani, while discussing his father Kamal Amrohi and Meena Kumari’s fights, Tajdar shared that he saw his father Kamal just once, upset and angry, as he usually stayed away from his parents’ private bedroom disputes.
Sharing what the fight was about between Kamal Amrohi and Meena Kumari, he revealed that his stepmother Meena had an abortion; she got pregnant, and she silently, secretly, without telling his father, aborted the child. He shared this truth with an old woman who used to come for a massage; she told him casually, not with any negative intention.
Tajdar shared that, on getting to know that Meena Kumari aborted their child, his father, Kamal Amrohi, got angry, after which both had a huge fight.
When asked what Meena told in her defense, Tajdar shared that she blamed Kamal, saying he wanted her figure ruined and that she become a mother and quit films.
Tajdar mentioned that his father was trying to handle and make his stepmother understand, but the situation went out of hand when his stepmother tore his father’s Kurta. Tajdar emphasized that his father never resorted to physical violence, but he was deeply hurt by his stepmother’s allegations that his father felt jealous of his stepmother’s success.
Upon Meena’s claims of jealousy, Tajdar revealed his father said that he isn’t jealous of her, and why would he be? Because she is his wife, he will be happy to see her succeed, but abortion isn’t the way.
