Kochi City Police have charged Chidambaram, the famous Malayalam director who directed the successful film “Manjummel Boys,” with sexual harassment and assault. The case stems from a complaint filed by a female actor, who alleges that in 2022, Chidambaram trespassed into her apartment in Elamkulam, Kochi, and behaved in a sexually inappropriate manner.
The Ernakulam Town South Police filed an FIR after the actor provided her statement on March 2 2026. Chidambaram has been charged under key sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) which includes Section 74 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and Section 75 (sexual harassment offences). Some reports also reference Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) because the alleged incident occurred before the BNS became law.
The police have collected the complainant’s statement while they prepare to deliver a formal notice to Chidambaram which will require him to appear for questioning. The authorities will decide to arrest the suspect based on the results of the ongoing investigation. As of early March 2026 Chidambaram has not yet released any public statement about the allegations which have been made against him.
Chidambaram has previously faced similar allegations. Prapti Elizabeth, an actor and influencer in 2024, accused the director of inappropriate behaviour during the filming of “Jan.E.Man,” his first directorial project, but no official complaint was made at that point.
