In a recent interview, the singer shared never-before-heard details about the intense medical emergency surrounding her arrival and the long months that followed.
Speaking on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, Nick described the experience as overwhelming and frightening. Malti was born nearly three months early, weighing only 1 pound and 11 ounces. Her premature birth meant that doctors had to act immediately to save her life.
Nick recalled the moment of her delivery as extremely distressing. He shared that Malti was not responding normally at birth and required urgent medical care. The neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) team stepped in right away, resuscitating the newborn and placing her on life support.
Because Malti was born during the COVID-19 pandemic, the experience became even more difficult for the family. Hospital rules were strict, and the environment was emotionally intense. Nick and Priyanka spent nearly three and a half months at the hospital, taking turns to be with their daughter. They divided their time into 12-hour shifts so one of them could always be by Malti’s side.
During her long stay in the NICU, Malti underwent six blood transfusions as doctors worked to stabilize her condition. Over time, she began to gain strength and responded positively to treatment. After months of careful monitoring and support, she was finally allowed to go home with her parents.
Priyanka Chopra has also spoken in the past about how traumatic that time was for her. She once revealed that Malti was so small at birth that she fit in the palm of her hand. Standing in the operating room while doctors worked to save her newborn was one of the hardest moments she has ever faced. At the time, she admitted she did not know if her daughter would survive.
Despite the painful memories, the couple has focused on building a warm and loving family life. Priyanka has shared that their favourite tradition is spending quiet Sunday mornings together, cuddling in bed. She has often said that time with family is the greatest luxury she has now.
On the professional front, Priyanka Chopra remains busy with several major projects. She is set to star opposite Mahesh Babu in SS Rajamouli’s upcoming film Varanasi, in which she will play Mandakini. The film is expected to release during Sankranti 2027, with Prithviraj Sukumaran also playing an important role.
Throughout their journey, Nick and Priyanka’s story stands as a powerful reminder of strength, hope, and gratitude—and how even the most difficult beginnings can lead to beautiful outcomes.
