Nora Fatehi became the centre of intense public debate after the song “Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke” from her upcoming movie KD: The Devil was released. The song, which features Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt, was released on March 14 2026, and its explicit vulgarity and sexually suggestive Hindi lyrics created an immediate backlash from the audience.

Social media users and critics quickly condemned the song for its “highly inappropriate” lyrics, which they called “a new low” for mainstream cinema. The hashtag #BanSarkeChunar trended because users wanted to know how the content managed to pass regulatory inspections.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting intervened in the controversy, reportedly requiring the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to impose severe penalties. The song was removed from YouTube and all official streaming services within a few days after its initial release.

The legal process commenced shortly after that. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) supported Advocate Vineet Jindal when he filed official complaints alleging that the song violated various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act because it could be easily accessed by underage viewers.

Nora Fatehi issued a video statement to distance herself from the situation. She confirmed that she was unaware of the final Hindi version, which she performed three years ago when she worked on the original Kannada production, because she did not approve the suggestive Hindi lyrics.

Lyricist Raqueeb Alam, credited for the Hindi lyrics, also distanced himself, stating he was instructed by director Prem to provide a literal translation to fit the music’s meter and did not contribute the controversial lines.

Singer Armaan Malik publicly criticised the song, lamenting on social media that commercial songwriting had “hit a new low.” The incident has reignited debate over creative responsibility and regulatory oversight in the Indian entertainment industry.
