On seeing the Kapoor parivar all poised to fight for Rajiv Kapoor’s property I am reminded of a song that Mukesh ,coincidentally a close family friend of the Kapoors, sang to immortality: Bahot diya dene wale tujhko aanchal hi na samaay toh kya kijiye. To translate Shailendra’s sublime poetry crudely… ‘The Almighty has given you amply, so much so that there is no space in your embrace for it all to fit.’

The Kapoors are blessed with a rare wealth , creative and otherwise. Kareena Kapoor Khan alone is worth millions, and when we supplement her wealth with her husband’s Pataudi estate in Madhya Pradesh which is worth billions, we can begin to get a measure of what the Kapoors are worth.

It therefore came as a surprise, and an ugly one at that, to know the Kapoors are all set for a legal dispute with Aarti Sabharwal the entrepreneur Rajiv Kapoor was married to once. They divorced approximately three years ago. The Kapoors are frantically searching for the divorce papers so that Ms Sabharwal doesn’t walk away with his property.

My humble question is, does Ms Sabharwal want her ex-husband’s property? I have no clue.

An even more humble submission: what about Sunita, the lady who was with Rajiv in his final years, who looked after him and gave him the love that perhaps he missed in his life? Does she not have a right over Rajiv’s wealth? Just because there is no legal document to prove that she loved him?

I spoke to a very close family friend of the Kapoors who doted on Rajiv. Here’s what that person had to say: “Rajiv would come to our home with his live-in partner Sunita whom he never married, for reasons best known to Chimpoo, because she looked after him better than his wife. But she was a lovely lady, a former airhostess, I think. She would keep telling me how handsome my son was. A charming woman.”

This Kapoor loyalist further revealed, “Chimpoo(Rajiv Kapoor) was not very lucky in love. He had married a lady named Aarti, but that ended in divorce. He showered affection on my family. He had so much love to give.”

Are the Kapoors listening? Choti mooh badi baat…why not let this lady who cared so much for Rajiv in his final years, have his property? It would not only be a kind gesture but also the right thing to do.
