Bollywood superstar Rani Mukerji’s mother, Mrs Krishna Mukerji, passed away at the age of 75. YRF ( Yash Raj Films) confirmed the disheartening news in an official statement on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
Reportedly, the incident took place in the afternoon. The official statement reads: The official statement reads, “With heavy hearts, we share that Rani Mukerji’s mother, Mrs Krishna Mukerji, 75, passed away this afternoon.”
The family also requested privacy during this tough time of mourning:
“The family is deeply grateful for your love, prayers, and support, and respectfully requests privacy during this time of immense grief.”
Rani And Krishna’s Inspiring Mother-Daughter Bond
Rani shared a deeply close, foundational, and inspiring bond with her mother, Krishna Mukerji. The Bollywood actress often credited her mother with pushing her into acting, noting that she became an actor “by default” because an obedient young Rani simply followed her mother’s intuition and advice.
She also shared that much of her acclaimed performance as a fierce, protective mother in Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway in 2023 was inspired by Krishna, describing her mother as a fearless “Bengal Tiger” who always stood strong for her family.
Krishna Mukerji, the playback singer, was married to filmmaker Ram Mukherjee, who co-founded Filmalaya Studios. Ram passed away in October 2017.
