Actor Ravi Dubey, who is set to portray Lakshmana in the much-awaited film Ramayana, recalled his journey with the ambitious project during a grand event held in Chennai. The actor spoke about his first audition, expressed gratitude towards casting director Mukesh Chhabra and showered praise on producer Namit Malhotra and co-star Yash.

Addressing the gathering, Ravi revealed that his journey with Ramayana began exactly three years ago, in October 2023, when casting director Mukesh Chhabra called him to his office for a look test.

“Three years ago—almost exactly three years ago, in fact, October of 2023—is when the most well-known casting director of Mumbai, actually India, Mukesh Chhabra, he called me to his office,” Ravi recalled.

He added that he was look-tested for the role of Lakshmana and had never imagined that the opportunity would eventually bring him onto such a grand platform alongside some of the biggest names in Indian cinema and international filmmaking.

Expressing his excitement about being part of the project, Ravi acknowledged the film’s impressive creative and technical team, including producer Namit Malhotra, director Nitesh Tiwari, music composer A.R. Rahman, Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer and visual effects company DNEG.

However, Ravi said that beyond working with celebrated stars and world-class technicians, what made the experience special was the kindness and generosity of the people associated with the film.

Praising Namit Malhotra, Ravi recalled an incident from the sets when director Nitesh Tiwari remarked that the producer had spoiled the team with the high standards he had established.

“There’s this one day when Nitish sir on the set said that Namit has spoiled us. He’s spoiled us, and I completely agree,” Ravi said.

He further praised the producer’s work ethic, discipline and generosity, describing the standards he had set as unparalleled.

One of the highlights of Ravi’s speech was his heartfelt appreciation for Kannada superstar Yash.

While acknowledging Yash’s larger-than-life screen image, Ravi revealed that he had witnessed a completely different side of the actor while working with him on Ramayana.

“Yash bhai, the rocking star Yash, Rocky bhai. You know, such strong and commanding adjectives to this man, but I am lucky to have seen a very sensitive and such a warm and generous side to Yash bhai,” he said.

Ravi’s remarks offered a glimpse into the camaraderie shared by the cast and crew of the film.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, Ramayana features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana and Ravi Dubey as Lakshmana.

With its star-studded cast, international technical collaborations and music by A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer, Ramayana remains one of the most anticipated Indian film projects.
