In the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case, a major development has come with the attacker, Mohammad Shariful Islam, expressing his willingness to plead guilty. The attacker, who was arrested for allegedly stabbing the Bollywood actor during an attempt at theft at his Bandra residence in January 2025, also requested leniency in his case from the court. The accused stabbed Saif multiple times, and he had to undergo emergency surgery at Lilavati Hospital.
According to the viral reports, Islam filed an application before a sessions court on Friday, August 28, 2026, stating that he wants to plead guilty in the stabbing case. This request comes shortly after the court framed charges against him on August 14, during which he pleaded not guilty.
In the matter, his lawyer, Vipul Dushing, confirmed his change of mind and shared that Islam wishes to express remorse for the act he committed, which is why he wants to plead guilty and also requested leniency from the court.
The prosecution has now been asked to file its response to the application, and the court has adjourned the matter until the next hearing, September 11, 2026.
Under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the attacker Islam is accused of several charges in the stabbing crime, including robbery with a deadly weapon, causing grievous hurt, and house trespass. As Mohammad Shariful Islam is a Bangladeshi national, staying illegally in India under the fake alias Vijay Das has also been booked under charges under the Foreigners Act and Passport Rules.
On the work front, Saif Ali Khan’s upcoming major project is the thriller Haiwaan, directed by Priyadarshan and co-starring Akshay Kumar as the antagonist. The film is set to release on the same date as the case’s next hearing, September 11, 2026.
