A major superstar has recently secured the rights to one of Indian cinema’s most iconic comedy franchises. The series, created by a well-known producer nearly two decades ago, has built a loyal fan base thanks to its unforgettable characters and cult status.
While the first two films were successful, the long-awaited third installment ran into turbulence after the original producer asserted ownership over the franchise. Around the same time, one of the film’s popular actors reportedly stepped away from the project, adding to the uncertainty.
The story behind the rights battle is just as dramatic. Industry insiders claim the producer had borrowed money from the superstar, with an agreement stating that if the amount wasn’t repaid by a specified deadline, the franchise rights would transfer to the actor. Although the producer is said to have eventually returned the money, the repayment allegedly came after the agreed-upon date, resulting in the rights passing to the superstar.
With the rights now believed to be in the superstar’s hands, the original director is expected to return and steer the project forward.
