A prayer meeting to remember her life has been scheduled by the family on January 10.
Over the years, she witnessed the changing face of Hindi cinema—from its golden era to modern times—standing firmly beside her husband and supporting her children in their individual journeys.
Shukla Kumar was married to Rajendra Kumar, one of Hindi cinema’s most successful and beloved actors. Known fondly as “Jubilee Kumar,” Rajendra Kumar earned this title because many of his films ran successfully in theatres for long periods. During his peak years, he was considered one of the country’s biggest stars. Through all the highs and challenges of his career, Shukla Kumar remained a strong and steady support system.
Despite being married to a superstar, Shukla Kumar maintained a low profile. She focused on her family and chose to avoid media attention. Those close to her described her as graceful, grounded, and deeply committed to her loved ones. Her quiet strength helped hold the family together even during demanding phases of life in the film industry.
Shukla Kumar also came from a film-related background.
She and Rajendra Kumar were blessed with three children—one son, Kumar Gaurav, and two daughters, Dimple and Manorama. Each of them followed their own paths in life, some closely linked to cinema and others beyond Indian borders.
Kumar Gaurav, their only son, entered the Hindi film industry in 1981 with the romantic drama Love Story. The film became a massive hit, turning him into an overnight star. His innocent charm and boy-next-door image made him extremely popular among audiences, especially the youth. At one point, he was seen as the future of Bollywood.
However, despite early success, Kumar Gaurav’s career gradually slowed down. Over the years, he chose to step away from acting and maintain a private life. Like his mother, he stayed away from the constant glare of the media. He later married Namrata Dutt, the sister of actor Sanjay Dutt, further connecting the family to another well-known Bollywood household.
Shukla Kumar’s daughters also built their lives in unique ways.
As the industry remembers her, she will be cherished as someone who played a vital role away from the cameras—quietly, lovingly, and with immense strength.
