Renowned Telugu actor and film producer GV Narayana Rao passed away in Hyderabad on Wednesday evening, August 26, 2026, following a prolonged battle with health complications. The actor was 73 years old at the time of his demise. Following Rao’s demise, several actors and film personalities expressed their condolences upon learning the news.
For the unversed, GV Narayana Rao shared a close friendship with South superstars Chiranjeevi and Rajinikanth. He was a batchmate at the film institute in Chennai and trained together before entering the industry. In particular, he had a strong association with actor Chiranjeevi, with the two having worked together on films like Chattaniki Kallu Levu, Manchu Pallaki, Raja Vikramarka, and others.
Rao’s career in the entertainment industry lasted for nearly five decades. He received training at the Madras Film Institute before stepping into films. He made his debut with Anthuleni Katha in 1976 and later played lead roles in films such as Oka Oori Katha.
Rao later turned producer and even backed films including Chiranjeevi’s Devanthakudu. The actor-producer also actively appeared in TV serials and remained connected in the entertainment industry.
