The official trailer for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has been released. The trailer opens with the soldiers returning from the Trojan War. It tells the story of Odysseus’s long, perilous 10-year journey home to Ithaca after the Trojan War. The trailer marks the tone of the epic, where Matt Damon is now yearning to return home, and now that the war is over, after battling for years, nothing can come between him and his home, not even his men.

The visuals are breathtaking, immersing you in vivid glimpses of tormenting seas, crashing waves, relentless winds, golden sands, shadowy forests, and towering cliffs. The trailer conjures a realm so intense and evocative, it feels almost tangible—one you yearn to experience firsthand. Soldiers appear as imposing figures of valor, riding horseback and braving the wrath of the sea as they strive for homecoming. The film is set for a 2026 theatrical release, with Matt Damon leading a stellar cast that includes Anne Hathaway and Tom Holland.

Here’s what Christopher Nolan said on how he approached the mythological aspect of it: “One of the things I needed to crack was how to approach mythological elements in a sort of real-world way. The big breakthrough creatively in thinking about the gods was that everything that is now explained by science was once supernatural. Lightning, thunder, earthquakes, volcanoes… people are literally seeing gods everywhere; not even the evidence of gods, they’re seeing the actions of gods. I don’t want to say too much about it beyond indicating that yes, the evidence of the supernatural is all around these people. It’s very much part of their lives. And I think it’s quite a lot of fun to tap into that.”

The Odyssey is based on Homer’s epic poem. The poem is about a warrior who is picking up on the aftermath of a war. The story is about witches, gods, and monsters. It is the tale of Odysseus, the cunning and resilient hero, the king of Ithaca.
