Minnal Murali star Tovino Thomas has done what looks like an inconsequential cameo in the new Dulquer Salman crime drama Kurup which tries to recreate the life and crimes of Sudhakar Kurup.Tovino plays one of Kurup’s murder victims Charlie.

Tovino confesses he has an emotional reason for doing the cameo. “This murder happened on my birthday January 24 in 1984 exactly five years before my birth. The first time I heard the story when I was a kid I was fascinated by it and later I found out that it was on my birthday.”

Tovino was riveted by the character of the murder victim. “Even minutes before his murder he didn’t know he was going to die.Imagine what his wife went through when he suddenly disappeared.”

The second reason for doing the film was the Kurup team. “I would say, all of them are my friends. The director Srinath Rajendran is my friend. I was a part of the cast in the same director’s Koothara where Mohanlal Sir played the lead. Then there was the cinematographer Nimish Ravi. He shot Lucas with me.”

The biggest reason for doing Kurup was its producer and leading man. “Dulquer Salmaan is someone I can never say no to. I started off as an assistant director on his film in 2012. Then I played the villain in Dulquer’s ABCD.We started our careers almost together and he has always been very nice to me.”
