Veteran cinematographer T N Krishnankutty has passed away. He was a resident of Thaiparambu House in Poonthuppu Ward, Alappuzha, and breathed his last at the age of 96. Reportedly, he was laid to rest at 2 PM on Monday, September 7, 2026.
The death news circulated online in no time; however, the reason behind his demise has not been revealed, and it has left the fans shocked. Krishnankutty is survived by his wife, Lalithamma, and children, Harikrishnan, Jayakrishnan, and Jyothikrishnan.
Cinematographer Krishnankutty began his career in 1960 by operating the camera for Umma, produced by Udaya and directed by Kunchacko. He has worked as a cinematographer for more than 70 films, including Ladies Hostel, Hariharan’s first film. Besides that, he has handled the camera for films directed by M M Nesan, P J Antony, Thikkurissi Sukumaran Nair, Shashikumar, A B Raj, Venu, K P Pillai and K Narayanan.
His last cinematography assignment was for ‘Madakkayathra’, directed by George Vettam in 1985. Reportedly, T N Krishnankutty holds the historic distinction of being the first cameraman to ever film superstar Mammootty on the silver screen in the 1971 film Anubhavangal Paalichakal.
