A disheartening piece of news surfaces: well-known veteran director and actor K. Bhagyaraj has passed away. The filmmaker was 73 years old at the time of his demise. As per the reports, the actor succumbed to cardiac arrest. Reports of his demise surfaced today, June 27, 2026.
Bhagyaraj, who has carved out a niche in the industry with a career spanning nearly five decades, has earned praise and appreciation for his contributions to Tamil cinema. With his incredible contribution to South cinema, he was regarded as one of the legends of the industry, and his passing is indeed a great loss.
Following the demise of Bhagyaraj, actor Ragava Lawrence paid his tribute on Instagram and expressed his sadness. He wrote, “Deeply saddened by the demise of Director Bakyaraj Sir. His contribution to cinema is unforgettable, and his work has inspired generations. This is a great loss to the film industry. Heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May his soul rest in peace.”

Bhagyaraj started his journey as a junior artist in Bharathiraja’s debut film, 16 Vayathinile, in 1977, and later appeared in Sigappu Rojakkal, where he also served as a writer. He marked his directorial debut with Suvarilladha Chiththirangal. Some of his notable projects are Oru Kai Osai, Mouna Geethangal, Mundhanai Mudichu, Engaging Chinna Rasa, Avasara Police 100, and others.
