Veteran filmmaker Kuku Kohli has passed away. The filmmaker was undergoing treatment for a heart-related ailment at a suburban hospital, where he had been admitted recently.
An industry source said that Kohli had undergone surgery and was in the recovery phase. “He was recovering from a surgery,” the source said.
Producer Manish Goswami also confirmed saying that he has passed away and said, ” I have known him for 35 years he was a very jovial person and has made immense contribution to the film industry. Hello always had a smile on his face. ”
Kohli was one of the recognised filmmakers of Hindi cinema in the 1990s and was associated with several successful films during the decade. His work included films such as Phool Aur Kaante, Baazigar and Yeh Dillagi, among others.
On the personal front, Kuku Kohli was married to veteran Bollywood actress Aruna Irani in 1990, making it his second marriage after his first wife, Rita Kohli.
His contribution to mainstream Hindi cinema during the period earned him a place among the notable filmmakers of the era. His death has left members of the film fraternity mourning the loss of a filmmaker whose work was closely associated with the commercial Hindi cinema of the 1990s.
The funeral service will be held tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM.
