Thakkali Srinivasan (1954 – 10 March 2026), a multi-talented stalwart of Tamil cinema, passed away in Bengaluru at the age of 72 due to health complications. Srinivasan became famous for his ability to play multiple roles, having worked in the film industry as a producer, director, actor, and composer, specialising in horror and thriller movies during the 1980s and 90s. His final rites were performed in Bengaluru on 11 March 2026.

Srinivasan began his excellent career as a producer by financing films such as Ivargal Varungala Thoongal and Manasukul Mathappu. He worked on the production of Nalaya Manithan and its sequel, Adhisaya Manithan. His creative work expanded when he became a director, making successful thrillers with Jenma Natchathram (1991) and Witness (1995). His career as a director ended with his 2011 film Aduthathu.

Srinivasan became best known as an actor for his powerful portrayal of the villain in Soora Samharam (1988), who faced off against Kamal Haasan. He showed his musical talent by composing scores for his movies, particularly with the Premi–Srini partnership.

Srinivasan spent his final years working for charitable causes. He abandoned the film industry to establish an ashram in Bengaluru, where he devoted his life to raising adopted children.

Srinivasan, affectionately called “Thakkali” for his fair, reddish skin, left a rich legacy through his filmmaking accomplishments and dedication to helping others.
