The legal petition, submitted by Jana Nayagan producers to the Madras High Court, has been officially withdrawn. The producers have chosen to resolve their ongoing censorship battle through executive channels rather than continuing their legal case.

The Madras High Court allowed KVN Productions to withdraw their writ petition, which they had filed against the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on February 10 2026. The producers have decided to submit their film to the CBFC Revising Committee for review rather than pursue further judicial intervention.

The Jana Nayagan controversy began when the CBFC Chairman raised serious objections, prompting the film to be postponed from its scheduled January 9 release. The examination focused on two main issues, which involved the film’s display of “foreign powers fueling religious conflict” and its depiction of the Indian Army.

The withdrawal establishes a critical legal barrier which the film must overcome before it can reach theatres. Although KVN Productions has not set an official release date for its film, industry insiders and fans believe it will likely premiere in late February or March after the Revising Committee completes its final certification.

The stakes are particularly high for this release, as Jana Nayagan represents Vijay’s cinematic swan song. The superstar is preparing to transition from the silver screen to full-time politics with his newly formed party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

The CBFC Revising Committee will make the next decision, as all legal obstacles have been resolved. The audience will see Vijay’s final role before he begins his political career when the committee announces its decision.
