The disastrous response to Akshay Kumar’s latest mirthless,and many say worthless, comedy Laxmii will have no direct ramifications on his career and the next release Sooryavanshi will most likely be a blockbuster. Some in the know say Akshay allowed Laxmii to be pushed into the digital space as he knew what its outcome was going to be if released in theatres.
Be as it might, the most immediate aftermath of the apocalyptic humour in Laxmmi would be Akshay’s steering clear from anything jokey for a while. Akshay’s next two releases Soorayavanshi and Bell Bottom are not comedies. And although he loves making people laugh and has been a durable dabbler in the genre since Hera Pheri, chances are he won’t hit the hilarious notes on screen any time in the near future even if you tickle him pink.
The announcement that Akshay has signed a “wacky comedy” with director Mudassar seems ill-timed. Not after what Aziz did to B R Chopra’s classic comedy Pati Patni Aur Woh and what Akshay has delivered in the name of comedy in Laxmmi.
Chances are , Aziz will have to stop thinking funny if he wants to work with Akshay.
