Bollywood icon Aamir Khan will receive the first-ever RK Laxman Award for Excellence, celebrating his extraordinary contribution to Indian cinema. The R.K. Laxman family announced the award as a tribute to the legendary cartoonist’s enduring legacy. The ceremony will take place on November 23, 2025, at the MCA Cricket Stadium in Pune, starting at 5 PM, and will feature a live concert by Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman.
Usha Laxman, daughter-in-law of the late cartoonist, confirmed the news and said, “The R.K. Laxman family has organised an AR Rahman live music concert on November 23 at the MCA Cricket Stadium. During the event, we will pay tribute to RK Laxman by instituting the first-ever RK Laxman Award for Excellence.” She added that Aamir Khan will be the first recipient of the award, calling it “the biggest tribute we, as a family, are offering to Laxman.”
Aamir Khan, known for redefining Indian cinema with films like Lagaan, Taare Zameen Par, PK, and Dangal, continues to inspire audiences with his powerful storytelling and dedication to meaningful cinema. His ability to combine creativity, emotion, and social awareness makes him the perfect choice for this new honour celebrating artistic brilliance.
R.K. Laxman, one of India’s most beloved cartoonists, created the iconic character The Common Man and the famous cartoon strip You Said It. Through his witty and insightful art, he captured the humour and everyday struggles of ordinary Indians. He also illustrated the timeless television classic Malgudi Days, written by his brother R.K. Narayan.
Over his lifetime, Laxman earned several accolades, including the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, and an honorary doctorate from the University of Mysore. By instituting this award, his family ensures that his legacy continues to inspire generations of artists and thinkers.
The upcoming event in Pune will unite cinema, art, and music in one grand celebration — honouring two creative legends, R.K. Laxman and Aamir Khan, whose work continues to shape India’s cultural identity.
