Boong, a Manipuri feature written and directed by Lakshmipriya Devi, has officially arrived in cinemas after an acclaimed run across international festivals. The film has been backed by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment, in association with Chalkboard Entertainment and Suitable Pictures.
Headlined by Gugun Kipgen and Bala Hijam Ningthoujam, the film celebrates a milestone moment for Manipuri cinema, reaching the big screen after travelling to some of the world’s most prestigious stages. Its journey began with a world premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, where it immediately drew critical recognition for its heartfelt storytelling and fresh cinematic voice.
Since then, Boong has gone on to receive widespread praise at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, the International South Asian Film Festival 2024, and numerous other festivals.
