Boong, which delicately weaves together humor, emotions, and cultural nuances of the Northeast, has been hailed by audiences for its authenticity and simplicity. Initially released in select cities, the film’s limited screenings quickly began selling out, leading to calls from cinephiles for wider access. Responding to this overwhelming response, distributors have now announced additional shows in several theatres across metropolitan hubs.
Hirani’s praise will not only amplify the reach of Boong but also pave the way for more regional films from the Northeast to find a national audience.
Directed and written by Lakshmipriya Devi, Boong had its world premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, marking a historic milestone for Manipuri cinema. The film is produced by Excel Entertainment with Chalkboard Entertainment and Suitable Pictures. Boong was released in theatres on September 19, 2025.
