Celebrated Indian producer Ektaa Kapoor has announced her commitment to shooting films in Madhya Pradesh, following the official unveiling of the Madhya Pradesh 2.0 Film Policy at the Waves Summit 2025. Kapoor emphasized her intent to tap into the state’s spiritual and cultural richness while praising the potential for it to become a vibrant content creation hub.
Speaking at the summit, Kapoor reflected on the logistical challenges of filming outside Mumbai and highlighted how Madhya Pradesh could provide a game-changing alternative. “We are now more out of the city, which makes it so tough for actors to travel, you see. We are shooting eight to ten hours a day and then you travel for four hours out of Bombay to shoot,” she noted, adding that if Madhya Pradesh offers robust infrastructure and studio support, it could be an ideal shooting destination.
Kapoor’s support for the new policy was more than symbolic. She made a concrete promise: “We will promise Madhya Pradesh that out of the eight to ten films we are planning and about eighteen to nineteen shows we are planning, we will be shooting one to start off before the end of twelve months in Madhya Pradesh. We are going to do that.”
The MP 2.0 Film Policy aims to provide enhanced incentives, streamlined permissions, and a push for long-format storytelling infrastructure, with Kapoor noting that consistent television and OTT production could give rise to localized economies and sustained employment for talent residing in the region.
Ektaa also touched on the emotional and cultural resonance of cities like Ujjain. “The soul connect of a city like Ujjain—no one can even… You see what White Lotus has done to locations; it gives you experiential content. If something like that can happen here, we’ll have a four-year world-building plan just around the fact that this is one of the oldest cities and this is the legacy we can show the world.”
With her team—CEO Sanjay and Digital Head Aparna—already in discussions, Kapoor’s endorsement is expected to boost confidence among producers and creators to explore Madhya Pradesh as a filming hotspot. she said “My CEO is sitting here, Sanjay and my head of content Aparna from Digital and we were discussing that maybe and we will be in some discussion, we will promise Madhya Pradesh that out of the eight, ten films you are planning and about eighteen, nineteen shows you are planning, we will be shooting one to start off before the end of twelve months in Madhya Pradesh. We are going to do that. Because we all know one big thing we have left out is the temperature. You see a beautiful location gives you satisfaction as far as your mind and body goes. But the soul connect of a city like Ujjain, no one can even, you know we have seen what White Lotus has done to locations because it gives you an experiential content and experience mix.”
She further added “If something like that can happen there, I mean we will have a four years only world creation just around the fact that this is one of the oldest cities and this is probably the legacy we can show the world. Yes, that’s very well said.”
With its architectural richness, historical significance, and now a forward-looking production policy, Madhya Pradesh 2.0 is poised to be a major player on both the Indian and global entertainment maps.
