Noted filmmaker was recently conferred with Honorary Doctorate in Journalism and Film Making from Washington Digital University. Mukherjee was selected by the jury members from the university. In an official mail the nomination committee mentioned that, “Your selection stands as a testament to your impactful work, strategic insights, and the commitment to excellence that has contributed to meaningful growth within the field of journalism and motion picture. This honor acknowledges your exceptional contributions, your influence in shaping organizational advancement, and your dedication to fostering professional development within your sphere of work.”
Incidentally the nomination underwent a comprehensive and rigorous evaluation by the Academic Council at Washington, in alignment with the university’s standards for honorary recognitions.
“We believe that the Honorary Doctorate (Honoris Causa) not only recognizes the past accomplishments but also affirms the continued ability to inspire others, and uphold the highest values of leadership and service. Keeping all the parameters into consideration the university is honoured in conferring the Honoris Causa Award.”
The Honoris Causa Award was conferred to Ram Kamal in New Delhi, by Dr Ruth Esther Odoley and Col Gurinder Pal Singh from Indian Army at a international convocation ceremony.
Mukherjee, won his first National Film Award in 2023 for his Hindi film Ek Duaa, and worked as journalist for more than a decade with reputed publications like Times of India, The Asian Age, Mid-Day, Ananda Bazar Patrika and served as Editor in chief with Stardust. He served as Vice President with India’s first movie corporate Pritish Nandy Communications.
He has penned three best selling biographies on Bollywood legends Hema Malini, Mithun Chakravorty and Sanjay Dutt. He had also penned books on short stories, health and fitness, Hindi poems and wrote a coffee table book in 2005.
“I am overwhelmed to receive this special honour from an internationally acclaimed university from USA. I would like to dedicate this honor to my father (late) Jaydeb Mukherjee, who inspired me to take challenges in life. I also owe this moment to my academic and professional gurus – (late) Dr Tapati Basu (Professor of Journalism from Calcutta University), (late) Mr Nari Hira the founder of Magna Publications and (late) Mr Pritish Nandy who always encouraged me to find the strength in a mightier pen, because that’s the foundation of any form of civilzed art,” says Ram Kamal Mukherjee.
The Honorary Doctorate is an elite academic credit that is credited to the individuals on the basis of their experience in specific field of studies. The recipients can use title as Doctorate using the Honoris Causa within the parenthesis. In this way, one would adulate the recipient as the Doctorate of the particular subject. The Doctorate program is not a regular degree program; rather it comes under a non-academic category.
Washington Digital University has met the American Council of Training and Development accreditation requirements in accordance with internationally recognized standards and general requirements for professional training with the ACTD standards of accreditation.
