Salman Khan is one of the leading Bollywood actors. As per reports in Mens XP, in 2009, Salman expressed his desire to buy an IPL team. This was the time when it was announced that two new teams will be added to the fold by 2011.

Soon after the reports of Salman being interested in buying an IPL team broke, it was rumoured that he is doing so because of his fight with Shah Rukh Khan. However, in an interview with NDTV, Salman had clarified that his desire to buy a team in IPL has nothing to do with his fight with SRK.

He told the channel, “I have met Lalit (Lalit Modi, then chairman of IPL) and have known him for a very long time now. I am definitely very interested in buying a team but I don’t think it’s in my hands. It’s a bid. So, you have to bid, if the bid is correct then it goes to you.” Salman then added that his father Salim Khan and younger brother Arbaaz are huge cricket fanatics, he, on the other hand, doesn’t know much about the game.

When asked if he wants to buy a team because other film stars own one, Salman replied, “No, it’s like because I have joined the film industry before other stars that does not mean that they followed me into this.”  When pointed out about the headlines mentioning his rivalry with SRK the reason behind Salman’s decision to go for an IPL team, he replied, “It could be that we don’t see eye to eye but it’s not eye for an eye.”
