With her lovely voice and diverse tunes, Asees Kaur has successfully made a name for herself as a playback singer in Bollywood. In an exclusive chat with ETimes, the young singer discusses her musical heroes, her ideal collaboration, the actresses she’d like to sing for, and more.

1. Is there someone in the industry that you like and look up to as a singer?

“I used to listen to Madam Noor Jahan a lot when I was little, and I still admire her. Since then, I’ve been a tremendous fan of Arijit Singh. He is a true inspiration to me.”

2. What would your dream collaboration be like and with whom?

“For ‘Intezaar,’ my ideal collaboration with Mithoon sir and Arijit Singh came true. I’d also like to work with Taylor Swift; I believe singing a song with her would be incredible.”

3. Which is the latest song that you’ve heard and are listening to on a loop?

“When I get up in the morning, I listen to my music. That is, interestingly, the first thing I do while cleaning my teeth. Aside from my own music, I’m listening to ‘Aabaad Barbaad’ from the film ‘Ludo.’ Arijit has sung the song, which I am listening to on repeat.”

4. Is there any advice you can provide to budding singers who wish to break into the Indian music industry?

“I’d like to encourage all budding singers to execute their riyaz with sincerity. It’s a lot easier to walk into a studio and nail the song if you’re completely devoted to your riyaz. If you’ve done your homework, you’ll be able to bring your A-game and crush it.”
