Delhi-born singer Jonita Gandhi has had quite a sensational journey. The 29 year old has more than 391k subscribers on her YouTube channel jonitamusic, which she started in collaboration with American composer, songwriter and pianist Aakash Gandhi.

Here is everything you should know about this Indo-Canadian music sensation who’s given us hits like the Break up song from Ae Dil Hain Mushkil in just 5 years.

1. She moved to Canada when she was just a year old and has grown up in Toronto and Brampton.

2. It was her father who encouraged her to sing! Her father is a musician by hobby and he saw potential in her.

3. She first performed in 2005 at her father’s show at a Christmas event.

4. She was only 17 when she started posting videos with Aakash Gandhi.

5. Her tryst with Bollywood began when she was visiting her friend Abhishek Gathak, a sound engineer at Vishal Dadlani’s studio.

6. She made her Bollywood debut with the title track of Chennai Express. It was very well received and she’s gone on to sing with music maestro A.R Rahman. Gandhi has featured in Rahman’s album Raunaq and concert film One Heart.

7. Although her debut song was Chennai Express’ title track, her first song to top the charts was Sau Tarah Ke from the movie Dishoom.

8. Jonita has a degree in health science and business and has interned at CBIC World Markets. The plan was to have a solid backup plan in case being a professional singer didn’t work out.

9. Since her true passion was singing, she decided to acquire a formal training in Western Classical music and has also taken up a training in Hindustani classical singing.
