Many K-pop female groups have risen to popularity in recent years, including Gfriend, Twice, and I.O.I, to mention a few. Mamamoo, on the other hand, has quickly acquired a reputation for its distinct style and amazing talent. By dazzling with their carefree vintage style and superb voices, the funky quartet has carved itself a niche in an entertainment market with limited space for newcomers.

1. “Mr. Ambiguous” (2014)

Mamamoo released their first album, Hello, in 2014, after numerous collaboration tracks gained the group’s attention. Due to its whimsical aesthetic and the quartet’s vocal talent, the lead single “Mr. Ambiguous” became one of the most successful songs in Korea that year.

2. “Taller Than You” (2016)

Mamamoo took a completely new tone on this year’s “Taller Than You” after a few years of becoming renowned for their amazing voice. The song’s old-school hip-hop beat stood out, but the tongue-in-cheek lyrics maintained Mamamoo’s trademark comedic tone, resulting in one of the year’s most inventive K-pop singles.

3. “Um Oh Ah Yeah” (2015)

This vibrant hit, which combined the group’s incredible vocal skill with a synth-pop style, was precisely what the summer of 2015 required. “Um Oh Ah Yeah,” as other Mamamoo hits, has a retro element, notably the bluesy chorus.

4. “You’re the Best” (2016)

“You’re the Best,” the first song from Mamamoo’s debut complete album, Melting, released this year, is the group’s biggest hit to date.

5. “Girl Crush” (2015)

The lively “Girl Crush” was published as a promotional track for a video game, but Mamamoo was the true winner: the bouncing “Girl Crush” drove the girl group straight to the top of the charts in South Korea, where the peppy song wound up in the top ten on most music charts.
