Mallik Sherawat, the iconic and most popular actress in the country, grabbed attention with her sensuous performance in the film Murder along with Emraan Hashmi.
However, the actress, before initiating her journey in showbiz, got strongly opposed by her father, who told her that he would disown her if she chooses the said path, for such would ruin the family’s name, and this got this actress on her nerves, and she decided to disown her father’s last name and adopted her Mother’s instead.
Speaking on the same, she said to Bollywood Bubble, “It was my rebellion against patriarchy because my father said, ‘Ye filmo mein jayegi, parivaar ka naam kharab karegi, main tereko disown karta hoon (She will enter the film industry, she will ruin the family name, I disown you).’ Maine kaha, ‘Main tumhara naam hi disown karti hoon. Tum kya mujhe disown karoge. Yes, you’re my dad, I respect you, I love you, main apni maa ka naam use karungi (But I’ll use my mother’s name).’ So I used Sherawat, it’s my mother’s name,” as quoted by Bollywood Life.
