Singer Jonita Gandhi and What Makes Her a Musician to Reckon With

Quite often, we come across songs which have such beautiful lyrics that resonate deep within our souls making us feel a range of emotions. Bollywood has seen lyricists who can evoke and bring to the surface ions that we didn’t even know existed! But every once in a while, the brilliance of these lyrics is dimmed by the not-so-amazing voice which is crooning them. On the flip side, we may hear a voice so melodious that can elevate even the most ridiculous and feeble lyrics. So much that we can’t get it out of our heads and our hands don’t move away from the ‘play’ button. Jonita Gandhi has had the good luck of lending her voice to some phenomenal words but also the talent of doing complete justice to them.

She first found prominence in Bollywood when she crooned a song in Chennai Express. However, she had already established a fan base for herself with her music covers she shared on her YouTube channel which she started in collaboration with Akash Gandhi. Today, her YouTube channel jonitamusic has more than 391k subscribers. The 29 year old was always encouraged by her father, who himself is a musician, to sing.

The singing sensation can sing in ten languages and has worked with music maestros like A. R Rehman early on in her career. After completing her university graduation, she toured with Sonu Niigam’s ‘Klose To My Heart’ tour across North America.

Although, Jonita is definitely blessed with voice that is like honey and caramel, she has also received formal training in western classical music and is currently training in Hindustani classical singing. An estimate of her versatility can be made with the songs that she has given us so far – Gilehriyaan from Dangal and The Break up song from Ae Dil Hain Mushkil are as different as chalk and cheese.
