After her first marriage to Ganpatrao Bhosle, veteran vocalist Asha Bhosle expressed an interest in quitting singing and becoming a housewife. Her spouse, she had stated, did not support her decision to become a stay-at-home mom.

When Asha Bhosle was 16, she married Ganpatrao Bhosle, who was 31 at the time. However, in 1960, the couple divorced. Ganpatrao and Asha had three children together. In 1980, Asha married musician, Rahul Dev Burman.

All that she sought, then, was to stay at home and play mother to her first-born: Hemant. Asha recalled in an old interview with news agency PTI. Her husband, on the other hand, was adamant about her keeping the microphone. He compelled her to keep singing. She would have quit if she had been left to her own devices.

Asha revealed about her first marriage and the treatment she got at her in-laws’ place in an interview with Kavita Chhibber a few years ago. She had stated that she had married at a young age to a man who was 20 years her senior. Lata did not speak to her for a long period after their love marriage. She was against the alliance. The family was highly conservative, and having a singing celebrity as a daughter-in-law was too much for them.

She had also stated she was abused and mistreated, and when she was pregnant with her youngest son Anand, she was ordered to leave. She returned to her mother, sisters, and brother. She holds no grudges and has no ill will toward anyone. She believes that if she hadn’t met her husband, she would not have had these three wonderful children and that her life would have turned out differently.
