A late-night fire at singer Talat Aziz’s residence in Juhu, Andheri West, left five people requiring medical attention after they suffered from suffocation, officials said.
The incident occurred at A Wing of Mittal Park on A.R. Mhatre Road, near the ISKCON temple, and was reported to the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) at 10.56 pm on October 2.
According to fire brigade officials, the blaze was restricted to a room on the ground floor of the ground-plus-five-storey residential building. The flames affected an area of around 10 ft by 15 ft, damaging electrical wiring and installations, a sofa, a split air-conditioning unit and other household articles.
Firefighters launched operations soon after reaching the spot and managed to extinguish the blaze by 11.58 pm, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building.
Five people — Talat Aziz (70), Shahin Aziz (30), Adnan Aziz (25), Bina Aziz (65) and Sikandar Singh (45) — were taken to Bhartiya Arogya Nidhi Hospital after suffering from suffocation following the incident.
All five received medical treatment and were subsequently discharged from the hospital.
Besides the Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, Adani personnel and civic ward staff were mobilised at the site as part of the emergency response.
No further injuries were reported in the information made available by the authorities.
