Neha Kakkar, the well-known Bollywood singer behind hits like Coca-Cola, Dilbar, Kala Chashma, and more, sat down for a candid conversation with Kareena Kapoor on Mirchi: What Women Want Season 6. During the conversation, she revealed why she makes songs like ’12 Ladke’ despite criticism, and opened up about trolling and her struggles.
Neha, being honest, admitted they know tracks with lyrics like “12 Ladke Sath Ghume, Tera Boyfriend Kaun Sa” will attract internet trolls. In fact, she confessed that they make such songs on purpose.
Revealing why she still makes such songs amid criticism, Neha shared that they know they will face criticism. But there are people who talk about them, make videos, gain views, and boost their business.
On the other hand, Neha highlighted that people dance like crazy to these numbers at parties, weddings, and clubs, proving that they work perfectly for the target market. So, despite knowing they will face criticism and get trolled, they make such songs. She also emphasized that she balances her discography by creating meaningful love songs alongside these commercial hits.
Childhood Regrets And Struggles
Having started her musical journey by singing bhajans at the tender age of four, Neha was asked if she regretted missing out on a normal childhood. The singer emotionally accepted that she did.
Sharing a childhood memory, Neha revealed that while other kids would playfully watch local Ramleela performances, she could never just sit back and enjoy them because she was always a part of the stage lineup, performing continuous bhajans. She also shared that she used to do 5 to 6 Jagratta back-to-back in one night, and that used to happen often.
She reflected on missing out on simple joys, from celebrating Navratri dandiya nights to attending school regularly. Neha noted that because they had to support their household at a very young age, she and her siblings—Tony Kakkar and Sonu Kakkar—missed out on typical childhood experiences.
