The BTS leader, RM (Kim Nam-joon), sustained an ankle injury while he practised for their upcoming performance, BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG. The band experienced their first full performance after military service when they prepared for their concert on March 19 2026.
The hospital admitted RM after the rehearsal for a comprehensive health assessment. Medical staff diagnosed him with an accessory navicular sprain, which is a rare injury that involves an extra bone in the foot. The doctors found that he had a partial ligament tear and a talus contusion, which resulted in additional swelling. The doctors issued a cast for RM, which required him to remain in one position until he finished his two-week recovery period.
The setback did not stop RM from his plan to perform at the Gwanghwamun Square comeback concert, which would take place on March 21. BIGHIT MUSIC confirmed that RM would still take the stage, albeit with modifications to his role. He performed fewer dance movements because of his injury, while he sang and engaged with fans.
The concert was streamed live on Netflix, attracting viewers from around the world to watch BTS perform as a group for the first time in 4 years. RM used Weverse to explain to his fans that he needed to dance at a lower intensity because his dance skills required him to maintain his performance through high-energy periods. He also detailed his plan to concentrate on his recovery process until he achieves full health for the upcoming Arirang World Tour. RM inspired fans through his commitment to injury recovery while the group demonstrated their dedication to their significant return.
