Ace Frehley, the legendary lead guitarist and founding member of Kiss, has passed away at the age of 74. Known for his iconic “Spaceman” persona and electrifying guitar solos, Frehley died after a fall at his home, according to a statement from his representatives.
Born Paul Daniel Frehley in the Bronx, New York, he discovered his passion for music early on, inspired by bands such as The Who and Cream. His big break came in the early 1970s when he answered an ad looking for a guitarist “with flash and ability.” That led to the formation of Kiss alongside Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, and Peter Criss.
Frehley was part of the band’s golden era in the 1970s, helping define their theatrical style and heavy rock sound. He rejoined the group in the 1990s for reunion tours, much to the delight of longtime fans. His 1978 solo hit “New York Groove” remains a fan favourite.
Kiss went on to become one of the most successful rock bands of all time, with over 26 gold albums and 14 platinum records in the U.S. Frehley’s guitar work and space-themed persona played a big part in that success.
Ace Frehley will be remembered not just as a guitar hero, but as a key figure in rock history who left a cosmic mark on music.
