The sudden demise of Assam’s heartbeat, the country’s well-known singer and actor Zubeen Garg, shook the country. He died in a diving accident in Singapore on 19 September, and since then, the entire Assam has been immersed in mourning. His songs, his voice, and his magic reached every household. Today, whenever their songs are heard, the eyes become moist.
But amid this sorrow, the direction of investigation has taken a new turn. Siddharth Sharma, manager of Zubeen Garg, and Shyamakanu Mahanta, organizer of North East India Festival, have been arrested in Delhi and Gurgaon. According to the police, Shyamakunu Mahanta had been hiding in Singapore for a long time, while the previous lookout notices had already been issued against both.
Both the accused were brought from Delhi to Guwahati and produced at the residence of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, as the courts were closed due to Durga Puja holidays. He has been sent to 14 days’ judicial custody amid heavy security.
This case is not only an investigation into an accident; now, many layers are opening. Zubeen Garg’s family has also lodged an FIR and demanded justice from all over Assam. According to police sources, a team of SIT will also be sent to Singapore, and under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT), cooperation has also been sought from the government there.
Assam DGP Harmeet Singh has said that the investigation is being done transparently, and a big update can be revealed in seven days. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has assured that justice will be given to Zubeen Garg at any cost by bringing out the truth.
Zubeen Garg was not only the voice of Assam and the North East but the voice of the whole of India. An emptiness has arisen from their departure and can never be filled. Today, when the memories of his funeral are refreshed, the waters cry dignity, crying the millions of loved ones, and the heart repeatedly says that such artists are really immortal.
